Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effects of alcohol on paraquat dichloride (PQ) poisoning. Compared to PQ administration alone, alcohol gavage intervention before PQ administration could delay the peak time of plasma Cmax. Myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels were correlated with the level of hydroxyl radical inhibiting ability. The alcohol gavage intervention led to aggravated acute lung injury by improving the inflammatory reaction and reactive oxygen generation. There was a positive correlation between oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction after acute PQ administration. Alcohol intake in combination with PQ poisoning can increase MPO levels, reduce OH and aggravate lung tissue damage.
