Abstract
Heroin is a plant product produced in sub-tropical countries and may be susceptible to aflatoxin contamination. Intravenous heroin users are prone to infection, in particular hepatitis B and human immunodeficiency virus (H.I.V.), which seem to be peculiarly aggressive in these drug abusers. The possibility that aflatoxins may be involved in the pathogenesis of disease in heroin addicts has been explored.
