Abstract
Associations between heavy drinking/current smoking and recent conflicts at work or with spouse were studied among 13,869 Finnish employees aged from 24 to 64 years. In the multivariate analyses adjusted for age and social class, the associations between interpersonal conflicts at work and heavy alcohol consumption, smoking or “passing out” after drinking were consistently positive among men only, whereas the associations between marital conflict or single status and heavy drinking or smoking behaviours were significant among both genders. Among women, interpersonal conflicts at work were associated only with passing out after drinking.
