Pages 241-250 | Published online: 11 Jul 2009

Abstract

Beer and wine were in existence for a long time in Ancient Egypt. Brewing and wine-making as well as the drinking of these two beverages, were an integral part of everyday life and a staple of the Ancient Egyptian diet. This was because they contain, apart from alcohol, important dietary supplements. The technology for making beer and wine was simple and various devices such as filters, strainers and siphons were used either in production or serving these beverages. Evidence for the technology of making beer and wine from various sources are discussed.
