The return of ‘Viewpoint’

The journal re-structure saw the departure of Viewpoint which provided the opportunity for readers to submit a well informed and supported point-of-view on a relevant subject.

Although we are not contemplating a return to viewpoint in its previous format, what we hope to launch this year is the facility for readers to respond to published articles. We would like to do this through an online response facility and/or an improved social media function.

For example, whilst in review, the article Applying Classifications raised lively debate among peers; this along with demand following the 2013 IMI questionnaire generated the idea of a return to a ‘letters to the editor ‘style commentary. This would again allow readers the opportunity to critically appraise the articles we publish. This concept will be new for The Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine but similar opportunities exist today in other journals.

Therefore, you are asked to bear this in mind when reading our content. In doing so, when the time comes you will be invited to submit your well developed, presented and supported commentaries for publication. Those selected for publication will be clearly titled and appear as a viewpoint to the original article in question.

Please look out on our website, via your email accounts and on our social media feed for information on where to find details of how to present your comments and also where and how to submit.

On the subject of points-of-view, we will soon publish IMI member response to our web-based questionnaire which was delivered by the editorial team at the 2013 IMI conference.

All other articles for consideration in this journal must be submitted to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cjau.
