Abstract
This article, the first in a series, is directed at medical auxiliaries with little or no experience of closed circuit television techniques. The intention is to offer some guidelines on the selection of the most suitable equipment for their needs from the wide range currently available. Further articles will be concerned with the planning and preparation required for video recordings, with special reference to relationships with staff and patients. The editing and distribution of completed programmes and the development, planning and installation of a colour television system to aid teaching in a new medical school will also be considered.
