Abstract

A series of patient management challenges has been prepared at the Centre for Medical Education, Dundee and sent to 20,000 general practitioners throughout the UK. The challenges are designed specifically for general practitioners and include a number of features that contribute to continuing medical education.

The challenges invite general practitioners to record the way they would diagnose, treat and manage a particular patient. The patient management problem format incorporates ‘instant feedback’ (IF), comparison with a group of one hundred peers, comparison with a specialist, and more detailed information including references and commentary.

The challenges have been found to be relevant and stimulating to general practitioners and to include a number of features that contribute to the effectiveness of the materials.
