Abstract
Cold stage techniques in scanning electron microscopy enable specimens to be viewed with a minimum of preparation. This means that teachers of embryology can use the scanning electron microscope in a dissecting class to help students to visualize small structural details in three dimensions. The technique is demonstrated with reference to two areas of application.
