Abstract
A low cost solution to the problem of providing objective analysis of disorders of movement in patients suffering from spasmodic torticollis is proposed. A microcomputer analyses information digitized from videotape recordings taken both ‘before’ and ‘after’ surgery. An indication of improvement is provided by graphic plots to give a general impression of the clinical picture, or as numerical data suitable for inclusion in the patient's notes.
This method provides a readily available non-invasive technique for demonstrating the extent, direction and speed of movement and can be applied to a wide range of movement disorders for comparison centre by centre.
