Abstract
Defaecating video proctography is a method of examining the physiology and function of the rectum and pelvic floor muscles during attempted defaecation. This paper describes a quantitive method of assessing rectal emptying and the approach to defining the ano-rectal angle. In particular, the effect of the surgical procedure of ano-rectal myectomy for patients with chronic constipation associated with outlet obstruction on the ano-rectal angle are described, employing the use of video tape and a microcomputer.
