Pictures in the round: moulage and models in medicine

Pages 80-84 | Published online: 10 Jul 2009

Abstract

The techniques of moulage and model making have been used for centuries for morphological research and to convey anatomical detail to the student of medicine. However, they are in danger of being written off as out of date and unnecessary skills. This article explores the history of making ‘pictures in the round’ and explains why medical illustrators should not undervalue their worth in today's technological society.
