Page 15 | Published online: 10 Jul 2009

Abstract

Dupuytren's contracture is a condition of the hand characterized by a thickening and contracting of the palmar fascia. It first becomes noticeable as a thickened nodule in the middle of the palm. Physically there is a slow but gradual onset of flexion deformity of the little and ring fingers. The condition is due to repeated strain on the palms of the hands, for example, continual use of the spade.
