Abstract
Sir Brynmor Jones, who was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull from 1956 until 1972, died on the 16 July 1989 at the age of 85. He will perhaps be most widely remembered for his Chairmanship of a Committee which reported, in 1965, on Audiovisual Aids in Higher Scientific Education. The Brynmor Jones Report, as it became known, was published during an expansion of higher education and its recommendations mirror the sense of optimism and enthusiasm that prevailed at that time. The report urged a corresponding expansion in the use of audiovisual aids and, while the recommendations initiated interest and approval and were acted on to some extent, they have had comparatively little impact on the delivery of teaching and learning, particularly in medical education.
