ABSTRACT
One response to current market pressures and financial constraints for pharmacies is to find and target specialty niches in the marketplace. Veterinarians are on the relatively short list of practitioners who can make a market in prescription pharmaceuticals. One hundred seventy-seven veterinarians were surveyed with a 24-item instrument developed in conjunction with a practicing veterinary cardiologist to provide a profile of the veterinarian and veterinary practices as related to the dispensing and prescribing of pharmaceuticals. Results of this survey are presented, along with a discussion of the results and implications for practice.
