SUMMARY
For decades, a rift has existed between the pharmacy profession and the pharmaceutical industry (pharma). Although the parties often collaborate in joint ventures, conflicts often erupt over respective roles in influencing drug therapy. This editorial introduces the journal's special issue on the rift between pharma and pharmacy. The rift's history, causes, and consequences are discussed in a collection of papers by authors from industry, practice, academia, and professional associations. The Commitment-Trust Theory will provide a conceptual framework for discussion. Strategies for healing the rift are summarized.
