Abstract
The age of acquisition of consonant sounds by children aged two to nine years was determined by testing 1,375 children in the New England Region of New South Wales. Results were compared to data from previous Australian and American studies of articulation development, and indicated marked differences in age of acquisition of sounds. In addition, the testing of younger children was validated and the criterion previously used to measure sound acquisition examined.
