Abstract
The consequences of intrauterine infection with rubella virus are varied and unpredictable. The syndrome of congenital rubella has been illustrated by describing 3 patients with this disease. In all cases the diagnoses were confirmed by isolation of rubella virus in tissue culture and by detecting antibodies against the infectious agent. Increased concentrations of IgA and IgM were found in the serum. These concentrations remained high for several months. The clinical findings in the 3 patients demonstrate the complexity of symptoms in congenital rubella.
