Abstract
Two cases of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection associated with pneumonia in previously healthy adults are reported. No antibodies to the virus were demonstrable in the first serum sample. A rise in titre was established during the disease and the virus was isolated from the urine. Fever was the dominant clinical symptom. Haematological changes reminiscent of those seen in infectious mononucleosis were found. Liver function tests gave abnormal results. Although the patients had no cough, the roentgen examination of the lungs showed interstitial pneumonia with reticular network and patchy opacities scattered throughout both lung fields. The roentgenological changes disappeared within 6 weeks. No other aetiology to the pneumonia could be found.
