Abstract
The use of ampicillin in patients with infectious mononucleosis (IM) is followed by a rash in nearly all cases. Of 20 such cases only 2 developed a rash when given test doses of ampicillin by mouth later, a sensitivity rate of 10% which is similar to that in the general population. This suggests that the sensitivity to ampicillin which develops during IM is not permanent.
