Abstract

A case of chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) with recurrent purulent infections in a 19-year-old male is presented. This is one of the oldest male patients reported to date. A carrier state was detected in the mother indicating that the patient belongs to the classical and most common group of X-linked recessive CGD. An unusual though not unique finding was the absence of granulomas in biopsy specimens. The possible implications of this finding is discussed in connection with the mild course of disease in this patient.
