Abstract

A case of severe tetanus in late pregnancy is reported. Equine, pepsin-refined tetanus antitoxin was administered on the first day of illness. A caesarean section was performed 14 hours later. Both mother and child survived and are well. No passage of heterologous antitoxin through the placenta could be demonstrated.
