Neonatal Infections Caused by Group B Streptococci: III. Incidence in Sweden 1970-71

Pages 29-31 | Published online: 02 Jan 2015

Abstract

In the past years an increasing number of neonatal group B streptococcal infections have been reported. Recently 16 cases were reported from the Stockholm area during 1967 to 1969, and now another 15 cases from all Sweden have been found. Besides this, 2 highly suspected, 6 probable cases and 12 colonized healthy infants were observed, all from the years 1970–1971. This points to the fact that group B streptococci are a common type of bacteria in neonatal infection, and that this type of infection could occur anywhere.
