Simultaneous Occurrence of Ankylosis of the Cricoarytenoid Joints with Dyspnoe and L.E.-Syndrome in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Summary

Severe dyspnoe, necessitating tracheotomy, developed as a result of ankylosis of the cricoarytenoid joints in a man of 54 years who had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for 20 years. After the onset of dyspnoe, an eruption appeared on both cheeks and legs, and L.E.-cells were noted in the blood. Oxygen loss may have caused the L.E.-syndrome to become manifest.

Une sévère dyspnoe nécessitant une trachéotomie s'est développée comme résultat d'une ankylose des articulations cricoaryténoïdes chez un homme de 54 ans ayant souffert de polyarthrite chronique évolutive durant 20 ans. Après la manifestation de la dyspnoe apparut une éruption sur les deux joues et les deux jambes. Des cellules de L.E. furent constatées dans le sang. La perte d'oxygène peut avoir eu comme effet que le syndrome de L.E. devint manifeste.

Zusammenfassung

Eine schwere Dyspnoe, die eine Tracheotomie erforderlich machte, entwickelte sich als Folge von Ankylose der cricoarytenoiden Gelenke bei einem 54 Jahre alten männlichen Patienten, der während 20 Jahren an chronischem Gelenkrheumatismus gelitten hatte. Nach Beginn der Dyspnoe erschien ein Ausschlag auf beiden Wangen und Beinen, und es wurden L.E.-Zellen im Blut festgestellt. Sauerstoffverlust kann die Ursache für das Auftreten des L.E.-Syndroms gewesen sein.
