The Bromsulphalein-Test (BSP) as a Measure of Rheumatoid Arthritis Activity

, &
Pages 128-132 | Published online: 10 Nov 2014

Summary

22 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were studied with a modified BSP test (20 mg./kg. bodyweight). In one only out of these 22 cases the BSP excretion was normal. The capacity of several cases to excrete BSP was equally as low as in those patients suffering from severe liver cirrhosis.

Repeated BSP tests in the same patients showed a striking correlation between the retention of BSP and the activity of the rheumatoid arthritis.
