Agglutinating Factors Eluted from Erythrocytes of Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Patients with Acquired Hemolytic Anemia

Summary

Saline-washed erythrocytes of patients and controls were incubated with a dextran solution. The resulting eluate was tested in an agglutination system of gamma-globulin-coated latex particles.

Eluates from 94 % of 96 patients with definite rheumatoid arthritis and of 18 patients with acquired hemolytic anemia produced a positive agglutination. Although serums from 69 of 96 patients with rheumatoid arthritis also were positive when tested with the Singer-Plotz tests for rheumatoid factor, none of the serums from patients who had hemolytic anemia were positive. Furthermore, the rheumatoid factor and the elutable factor were electrophoretically distinguishable.

Des érythrocytes de malades et témoins ont été incubés dans une solution saline de dextrane. L'éluat qui en résulte a été testé dans un système d'agglutination de particules de latex revêtues de gamma-globuline.

Les éluats de 94 % de 96 patients atteints de polyarthrite chronique évolutive définie et de 18 patients souffrant d'anémie hémolytique acquise produisirent une agglutination positive. Alors que les sérums de 69 parmi 96 patients atteints de polyarthrite chronique évolutive étaient également positifs lorsqu'ils furent soumis à l'épreuve de Singer-Plotz pour déterminer le présence du facteur rhumatoïde, aucun des sérums de patients atteints d'anémie hémolytique aigüe ne furent positifs. De plus le facteur rhumatoïde et le facteur d'élution étaient électrophorétiquement distinguables.

Zusammenfassung

In Salinsalzlösung gewaschene Erythrozyten von Patienten und Kontrollpersonen wurden mit einer Dextranlösung angebrütet. Das hieraus entstandene Eluat wurde in einem Agglutinationssystem von mit Gammaglobulin überzogenen Latexpartikeln getestet.

Eluate von 94 % von 96 Patienten mit feststehender chronischer Gelenkentzündung und von 18 Patienten mit erworbener hämolytischer Anämie ergaben eine positive Agglutination. Obwohl Seren von 69 von 96 Patienten mit chronischer Gelenkentzündung bei einem Test nach der Singer-Plotz Methode zur Bestimmung des rheumatoiden Faktors gleichfalls ein positives Resultat aufwiesen, war keines der Seren von Patienten mit hämolytischer Anämie positiv. Ausserdem waren der rheumatoide Faktor und der elutable Faktor elektrophoretischer unterscheidbar.
