Summary
In nine cases of rheumatoid arthritis OsO4 labelled with Os-191 was injected into the knee joint. The radioactivity was measured from specimens of blood, urine and feces. In addition, the external radioactivity was measured above the injected and contralateral joint, the inguinal lymph nodes, the liver and the heart. The distribution of radioactivity in the injected joint was scanned.
The resorption of the labelled OSO4 occurred in two phases. The half-life of the first phase was about one day and that of the second phase from 18 to 40 days.
Os-191 was excreted from the body principally via the kidneys. The highest activity in the total blood volume remained below 10 per cent in every case.
