Summary
Erythromucoid, isolated from the erythrocytes, is immunologically more pure than plasmamucoid. In patients with ankylosing spondylitis and without subclinical diabetes, receiving a four-week therapy with antiphlogistic drugs of the pyrazolone-pyrazolidine group, the hexose and protein contents showed an ascending trend; on the other hand, subjects with subclinical diabetes showed a significant decrease in the hexose content of erythromucoid as compared to healthy controls. Comparisons are also given for plasmamucoid to show the differences between subjects with hyperostotic spondylosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
