Decision Support for Financial Planning

Abstract

Financial consulting is a demanding task. Due to the complexity and fuzziness of customers’ financial problems on the one hand and the amount of possible products that may be considered to configure solutions to these problems on the other hand, an adequate DSS is essential to generate high quality advice in a cost-efficient way. A model is presented that allows for the inclusion of uncertainty and risk into the formulation of financial problems by the customer as well as in the solution process, i.e. intelligently bundling financial products to form a superior solution for a specific customer problem. The proposed model may serve as the basis for the development of an adequate DSS for financial planning. In addition, we introduce the transformation of probability constraints into scenario specific minimum payment constraints, which is applicable beyond the domain of financial planning.

Le conseil en finance est une tâche difficile. La complexité et le flou des problèmes financiers de certains clients et la multiplication des produits financiers requièrent des outils d'aide à la décision. Cet article présente un modèle qui inclut l’incertain et le risque dans la formulation des problèmes financiers, de sorte qu’une combinaison optimale de produits puisse être offerte à chaque client. Ce modèle pourra servir de base pour le développement d'un SIAD pour la planification financière. L’article présente également une méthode pour manipuler les contraintes spécifiques de chaque scénario en termes de risque et de valeurs minimales et maximales requises, applicable à d'autres domaines.
