Intraoperative Surprises II

Abstract

Intraoperative complications during strabismus surgery may result in serious ocular and systemic morbidity. This paper addresses wrong eye and wrong muscle surgery, anesthesia related complications, hemorrhage, and intraocular perforations. The characteristics and consequences of these complications are discussed. Emphasis is placed on preventative measures and then management once a complication occurs.
