The Effect of Advection in a Region of no Data: An alternative derivation of Thompson's Equation

Abstract

In the preceding paper, Thompson has discussed the time variation of the mean square wind error in a hole (i.e. a region in which there are no data), surrounded by an area of complete and accurate data coverage. At the initial time the stream-function field inside the hole is estimated by some objective method consistent with its known distribution on the boundary between the hole and the completedata exterior.
