Wind conditions in situations of patternform and non-patternform cumulus convection

Pages 1-12 | Received 21 Jun 1966, Published online: 15 Dec 2016

Abstract

Comparisons were made between the wind and wind shear profiles pertaining to pattern- form (clouds in rows) and non-patternform cumulus convection. No unique or consistent differences were found. The directional correspondence of the cumulus rows and wind was also investigated. The rows were found to be most frequently oriented about 3° to the left of the surface wind and about 15° to the left of the wind at the cloud base level.
