Interpolation of wind, temperature and humidity values from model levels to the height of measurement

Abstract

A new analytical technique is proposed to interpolate data between the lowest model level and the earth's surface in numerical weather prediction systems. The data can be interpolated to any height and especially to the one of routine measurements. The method can therefore be applied either to the verification of forecasts or to the determination of “observation minus guess” increments in data assimilation. The procedure assumes that a Monin-Obukhov-type flux calculation has been previously performed when integrating the model.
