Bowel preparation before colonoscopy

Choosing the best lavage regimen

When primary care providers refer patients directly for colonoscopy, it is important that they select the best bowel- cleansing regimen for each patient. But not all such regimens are created equal, as these authors discovered during a review of the English-language literature on colon lavage before colonoscopy. Drs Tooson and Gates recommend four methods that, on the basis of prospective randomized trial results, appear to be safe and effective in selected circumstances.
