Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults has recently received lavish exposure in the mass media. While this scrutiny has heightened the public's awareness of a disorder that often goes undiagnosed, it has also produced overidentification with ADHD among the general population. In some cases, the result has been self-diagnosed patients who present to primary care physicians demanding treatment.
