Suggestions for dealing with the problem

In spite of an ever-expanding arsenal of antihypertensive medications, there remains a subset of patients who fail to achieve optimal control of their blood pressure. In this article, the authors define resistant hypertension and present a simplified approach to the workup of this problem. They stress the importance of appropriate evaluation, discuss the role of home and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and examine the effects of patient noncompliance.
