Gastroesophageal reflux can produce numerous diverse complications that may not be immediately attributed to reflux. If left untreated, some reflux-related conditions (eg, erosive esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus) can lead to even more severe complications. The authors of this article describe the most common esophageal and extraesophageal complications of reflux and the various treatment options, emphasizing early, accurate diagnosis.
