Noisy breathing in children

Remember when Alfalfa of the Little Rascals swallowed a whistle, and it sounded every time he exhaled? Seldom is the source of noisy breathing in a child that evident. However, the patient's age and the type and acuity of the noise heard do suggest some causes. The reverse is also true: These findings can quickly rule out certain causes. Dr Pryor discusses the common breathing noises and typical sources as well as patient assessment to further establish the diagnosis.
