Primary care physicians have a central role in the multidisciplinary approach to comprehensive epilepsy management. Although referral to a neurologist may be necessary for initial diagnosis and treatment planning, follow-up is often the responsibility of the primary care physician. The authors of this article emphasize the importance of clear communication and a thorough understanding of antiepileptic drug regimens for maintaining seizure control and improving patients' quality of life.
