Many patients with schizophrenia do not respond to traditional antipsychotic drug therapy. Others do respond and have fewer episodes of hallucinations or delusions, but they may also experience blunted affect, emotional and social withdrawal, and lack of motivation. Dr Citrome discusses several new antipsychotic medications that may be more effective and cause fewer side effects than the older drugs.
