A solitary pulmonary nodule, usually found unexpectedly on chest roentgenography, is a finding that cannot be ignored. It is critically important that primary care physicians recognize the potential significance of such a lesion and know how to proceed with investigation. Dr Lillington discusses strategies to best ensure that all malignant lesions are resected without undue delay but that benign ones are not resected unnecessarily.
