Abstract

Guillain-Barré syndrome is the most common cause of acute generalized paralysis. The disease is usually self-limited, but severe cases, such as the one described here, can result in death from respiratory failure. Because symptom progression is rapid, recognition of the clinical features and quick initiation of treatment are important. Aggressive intensive care of patients with severe illness helps ensure a more favorable outcome.
