At best they are inconvenient. At worst they complicate treatment, injure patients, and fuel litigation. Adverse antibiotic reactions represent a major cause of iatrogenic illness-a situation that deserves careful and continuous scrutiny. This article reviews the classification and mechanism of action of adverse reactions and offers specific information about both avoiding and managing them.
