Most snorers aren't as severely affected as the character in Dickens' Pickwick Papers (after whom Pickwickian syndrome was named), whose employer claimed that he “goes on errands asleep, and snores as he waits at table.” But many people who snore have their sleep disrupted and are drowsy the next day. Add apnea to the nighttime din, and the patient may be headed for serious vascular problems. Dr Lindblom explains how to decide when a snorer should undergo sleep testing and what treatment options are available.
