Reversing oliguria in critically ill patients

, MD
Pages 245-263 | Published online: 30 Jun 2015

PREVIEW

Oliguric renal failure is a common occurrence in critically ill patients. In an attempt to maintain stable diuresis, the first priority is to optimize global and renal hemodynamics. Pharmacologic measures, including combination drug therapy, may also be useful, while refractory cases may call for continuous replacement therapies. But even the most efficacious treatment has limitations in terms of recovery of renal function and overall patient mortality.
