Although opportunistic infections are becoming less prevalent since the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapies for AIDS, they remain a significant threat to immunocompromised patients. The options for prevention and treatment of AIDS-related infections are increasing as research into new drugs and more effective combination regimens continues.
