Pages 45-47 | Published online: 30 Jun 2015

PREVIEW

Empirical therapy of community-acquired pneumonia is based on prevalence of specific pathogens, the age of the patient, the presence of underlying diseases, and the severity of illness. As discussed by the authors, whether the initial antibiotic(s) chosen should be continued through a full course of treatment should be determined by the specific organisms identified and the clinical response of the patient.
