What the mouth has to say about diabetes

Careful examinations can avert serious complications

It might be time to add another “opathy” to the list of complications of diabetes. “Periodontopathy” could very well describe the mouth disorders that affect many patients with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Fortunately, as the authors of this article point out, there are a number of things that can be done to reduce the risks—not the least of which is a careful search for what the mouth can tell us.
