Hand dermatitis strikes nearly everyone at least occasionally, especially with allergic reactions to natural rubber latex becoming increasingly common. Given the difficulties of diagnosis and treatment, protection and prevention are vital. If irritants are not avoided, hand dermatitis may persist for years—even decades—and necessitate a change in the patient's employment, recreational activities, or both.
