Chronic fatigue syndrome

Helping patients cope with this enigmatic illness

Fatigue is the seventh most common problem in primary care practice. Among the many causes is chronic fatigue syndrome, a debilitating illness that can affect persons of all ages. Although our understanding of the illness has improved greatly in recent years, diagnosis is often challenging and some physicians remain skeptical of its validity. In this article, Dr Fuller and Dr Morrison describe a primary care approach to diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue syndrome.
