The cause of fungus-induced skin changes can often be easily determined by potassium hydroxide (KOH) examination. Newer antifungal medications are commonly successful, although long-term preventive measures by the patient may be needed. Dr Crissey describes the signs and symptoms of athlete's foot, onychomycosis, jock itch, and ringworm of the scalp and suggests methods of management.
